<binary> Just when I thought this semester couldn’t get any better, I find out that I’ll be packing my bags once again! In 2.5 weeks, I will be heading off to the WEST COAST in Silicon Valley, California as one of the 50 selected attendees of the United Negro College Fund’s HBCU Innovation Summit. I am still in disbelief that I was chosen. As an avid fan of the HBO show, Silicon Valley, I’m pretty stoked to see if I can spot some real-life comparisons. For the duration of the trip, all of our accommodations are fully taken care of including: airfare, food, hotel, and badge access into many tech headquarters we will be touring. Their isn’t much detail on the line-up of speakers just yet, but there are whispers that a tour of Google may even be added.
The program was made possible by UNCF and the HBCU Innovation Team. The HBCU S.T.E.M Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship (or I.C.E) initiative’s goal transform campuses into high-performance S.T.E.M hubs and nodes of innovation and entrepreneurship. After touring the headquarters of eBay, Adobe, Symantics, etc., we’ll spend our last official day in workshops that range from Technical Interview Prep, Uncovering the Different types of Technical/Non-Technical Positions, and a lunch roundtable with recruiters. Overall, I‘m ready for all that Cali has for me in this new experience and the infinite gems that will manifest from it. </beauty>
