Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr said “Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences to our users; We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today’s agreement.”
Shazam already integrates with other services and apps like Apple’s Siri, music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify, and Snapchat. It is not currently clear what changes will be made to the app after acquisition. Recode reported that the deal is approximately $400 million.
